SLB N.V. (SLB Limited)
SLB N.V. (SLB Limited) is the world's largest oilfield services company by revenue, providing the technology, equipment, and expertise that energy producers rely on to find and develop hydrocarbon resources across more than 100 countries. Formerly Schlumberger — the name it carried for nearly a century before rebranding in 2022 — the company employs roughly 109,000 people and generated $35.7 billion in revenue in fiscal 2025, spanning digital software, reservoir characterization, drilling services, and production systems.
This is a story about an industrial heavyweight attempting to reposition itself for a world that no longer takes upstream spending growth for granted. SLB's core drilling and reservoir businesses — which provided the bulk of its profits for decades — are structurally exposed to E&P capital discipline. In response, management has tilted the portfolio toward two higher-growth, higher-return engines: Digital, a software and data business that earned $2.7 billion in revenue in 2025, and Production Systems, which absorbed the $4.9 billion ChampionX acquisition in mid-2025 and now accounts for 37% of total revenue. The bet is that the mix shift can lift consolidated margins and deliver more resilient free cash flow across the commodity cycle.
The question the file turns on is whether SLB can offset the steady erosion of its drilling franchise with growth from digital and production technologies — and whether the current valuation, at roughly 12 times trailing EBITDA, already prices in a successful transition. The ChampionX integration is the most consequential operational test in a decade. If the deal delivers on its cost-synergy and margin-expansion thesis, SLB emerges a leaner, more diversified company. If it doesn't, the market has every reason to treat it as a cyclical services stock whose best years are behind it.
